2026 Leadership Summit Trip

DBR_FINAL_SLIDE.png

July 2026 was an unforgettable journey to Rusinga Island, Kenya, where leadership, service, and cultural immersion came together at the Dream. Believe. Repeat. Leadership Summit for teen girls.

At Dream. Believe. Repeat, we believe that when a girl discovers her voice, she changes her world — and the world around her. Throughout the year, we conduct 9-week leadership and mentoring programs that empower teen girls in Kenya to build confidence, emotional intelligence, and the leadership skills they need to shape their own futures. Each week, expert coaches and guest speakers lead interactive virtual and in-person workshops that focus on self-awareness, communication, resilience, coping skills, and purpose.

The girls participate in small, supportive groups where psychological safety allows them to explore ideas, practice new skills, and find their authentic voices. We measure progress and growth at every stage to ensure each participant receives personalized support — leading to powerful, lasting transformations: reduced absenteeism, higher self-esteem, fewer cases of teen pregnancy, and more girls continuing their education to university. DBR also funds high school fees and sends girls to university.  Lastly, DBR  facilitates the donation of period panties and sanitary towels for our program participants, which help girls stay in school.

“The impact of this project is exceptional because of the cause and the high quality of the volunteers involved.”  — Kara Lewis, Assistant Principal, Friends School, Baltimore, 2023 Trip Attendant

The learning journey culminates in an unforgettable, in-person Leadership Summit on Rusinga Island, Kenya, where 120 teen girls gather to participate in workshops, storytelling, and cross-cultural exchange with volunteer leaders from around the world. Our July 2026 Summit, Empower Her. Empower Kenya, recently concluded as a resounding success where the local community asked us to grow the program, and dynamic new collaborations and partnerships were forged for future paths forward in these communities.

We will be seeking participants for the next summit, a once-in-a-lifetime experience and powerful journey that combines service, leadership, and cultural immersion. Participants will co-facilitate workshops, engage in meaningful dialogue about empowerment and equality, and connect deeply with students, community leaders, and families. Along the way, you’ll learn how non-profits operate, sharpen your coaching and facilitation skills, and grow as a leader yourself — all within a safe, supportive environment.

In our most recent July 2026 Summit, internationally celebrated yoga teacher Lauren Eckstrom lead daily yoga and mindfulness practices overlooking the tranquil beauty of Lake Victoria, with the full focus, dedication, and enthusiasm of every summit participant. Yoga practice has now become another component of future DBR programming. Our team leaders lead cohorts through a series of vibrant and dynamic workshops over the course of a weekend at the Rusinga Island Inn.

Beyond the next DBR summit, you’ll explore the vibrant culture of Kenya, witness its breathtaking wildlife, and form lifelong friendships with a diverse, purpose-driven community.

"Just being in the presence of others who live differently than you makes you grow. I also learned from listening to the other coaches in their approach, philosophies and impact on others. It made me want to have a bigger impact on clients."
Jennifer Griffin, Executive Transformative Coach, 2023 Trip Attendant.

“Traveling and connecting with people from different backgrounds and cultures can be a transformative experience. It allows you to broaden your horizons, gain new perspectives, and learn valuable lessons from others. It's a testament to the power of travel and human connection in fostering personal growth and understanding. I learned and took something away from every person I met on the trip. In addition, I made lasting friendships.”  Irini Nikolaidou, Executive & Systemic Team Coach, 2023 Trip Attendant.

As we begin planning details for our next DBR Summit, we will be posting details here. If you'd like to learn more about the experience, a member of our team is always available to join you for a Zoom call and answer any questions you may have about the trip, the Leadership Summit or our programs. We are always looking for future team leader volunteers, partners, and corporate partnerships and welcome the connection.
